GeoStrain: An open source software for calculating crustal strain rates
نویسندگان
چکیده
We developed an open source software for crustal strain analysis using the least-squares collocation method based on the spherical model of the earth. The software is able to simultaneously determine the signal and noise of the velocities at the observation points with the best possible removal of the observational errors, or at any other position with no velocity observation. Furthermore, the software can calculate strain and rotation rate tensors at any points of interest, including observation points, grid points or points along a fault line. The advantage of the software is that the sphericity of the earth is considered in all the calculations. Furthermore, it can optionally consider the effect of the vertical velocities on the strain rates that is principally important for regions where vertical deformation is the major geophysical signal compared to the horizontal deformation.

Inquisitive Analysis of the Point Source Effect on Propagation of SH Wave Through an Orthotropic Crustal Layer
The occurrence of SH wave propagation under the effect of a point source in an orthotropic substratum lying over a heterogeneous orthotropic half space is deliberated in the prospect of a devastating earthquake. The quadratic alteration is acknowledged for density and shear modulus which is hypothesized to be a function of depth. The method of Green's function and transformation technique contr...

متن کاملTectonic stressing in California modeled from GPS observations
[1] What happens in the crust as a result of geodetically observed secular motions? In this paper we find out by distorting a finite element model of California using GPS-derived displacements. A complex model was constructed using spatially varying crustal thickness, geothermal gradient, topography, and creeping faults. GPS velocity observations were interpolated and extrapolated across the mo...
متن کاملContemporary crustal movement of southeastern Tibet: Constraints from dense GPS measurements
The ongoing collision between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate brings up N-S crustal shortening and thickening of the Tibet Plateau, but its dynamic mechanisms remain controversial yet. As one of the most tectonically active regions of the world, South-Eastern Tibet (SET) has been greatly paid attention to by many geoscientists. Here we present the latest three-dimensional GPS velocity f...

Open source has become the de facto community process for the Internet. The success of this process has primarily been in software development, starting with its roots in Linux (http://www.linux.org/), and has spread to hundreds of diverse projects ranging from designing a better intravenous system for third world patients (http://www.thinkcycle.org/), improving cooking recipes (http://www.ibib...
